There is no end all, be all media. There is certainly a call the use of multiple medias.
Several years ago, I was listening to the radio and I heard an advertisement for a newspaper on the radio. Now I thought that was absolutely hilarious. A newspaper using the radio to advertise for advertising space in their newspaper.
Here’s why I thought this was funny, I was working in an industry that used the newspaper for advertising and they would come in saying how good the readership was and circulation size was and how stupid we would be not to be in their newspaper.
Now here I am listening to a radio advertisement to advertise in the newspaper. It struck me as very funny. If the newspaper was so good why would they need to be on the radio. The message wasn’t consistent with what I had heard.
Over the last couple of years I have certainly become aware of the need for multiple media sources but the one thing that has to consistent is the message.
You see the ad for the newspaper on the radio was practically begging for you to advertise. It wasn’t clear with facts about the reach of their media and it didn’t have testimonials of how good they were. That would have made all the difference.
Multiple sources are necessary with a consistent message.
